VIRxSYS is a leading company in the field of RNA biology and therapeutics. As the only RNA trans-splicing company, VIRxSYS utilizes its patented, broad-based technology known as spliceosome mediated RNA trans-splicing or SMaRT™ to re-write the genetic message at the level of pre-messenger RNA. Gene reprogramming is achieved through trans-splicing, a naturally occurring process, and mediated by VIRxSYS's patented RNA molecules known as pre-trans-splicing molecules (PTMs).

The specific application of SMaRT™ depends upon the nature of the genetic material that is trans-spliced into a pre-mRNA target. Applications include RNA therapeutics, real time molecular imaging, genomics, determination of alternate splice sites and molecular evolution, amongst others. VIRxSYS’ initial focus with this technology is on RNA therapeutics.

VIRxSYS has strong first-mover advantages in the RNA therapeutic field utilizing trans-splicing. Four US patents with broad claims are issued and 46 applications are pending.
